Today Lidovky.cz premiered a new video from Zabelov Group directed by Pavel Prokopič. „Na krev” comes from live improvisation on Hitchcock’s silent movie “Ring” performed 3 years ago at Letní filmová škola festival in Uherské Hradiště which had special importance for us, said Jan Šikl, drummer of the band.

From time to time artists ask me to help them to fulfil gaps on their tour schedule. They come to me often 2 but sometimes even 1 month before the tour. Mostly we know each other personaly so I want to help them as you help to friends. First of all I ask: “Are you aware you have no chance to get properly paid gig if you ask 1 month in advance (because venues are mostly fully booked and there is no time to make any bigger promotion for the gig) ? Do you really want just to fulfil the gap?” “Yes, of course, that’s clear, we are aware we can’t ask for standart money, we accept these conditions”. For those who are not in this business – to fulfil a gap means the artist maybe will earn no money on this day but also doesn’t lost his money to pay for a hotel and food.

After this I call/write to several venues, most of them are full but one of them is able to make the gig, they can provide the artists with food, hotel and even a small fee. Amazing! I call back to the artist – “I have a show for you, can you confirm these conditions?” “No, it’s too small money for us.”… So I spent my time to work for free just to help them, the promoter lose his time to communicate with me, with a hotel, with technicians etc. And the result is ZERO – just because the artist was not true when speaking about his expectations and doesn’t respect time and employment of other people.

So please dear artists: DO NOT ASK ME ANYMORE TO HELP YOU WITH GIGS 1-2 MONTHS IN ADVANCE. NEVER MORE!!! If you want to work with us to make a tour come 9 or at lest 6 months before the tour. Maybe we will have a time to help you but definitely not later.

Sincerely,
Dušan Svíba

Following on from 2016’s hugely acclaimed “One Of Us” album “Good Citizens” raises the stakes and signals the ascent of Cash Savage and the Last Drinks as one of the heavy hitters of Australian music’s new era. An incandescent live band at the height of their powers, led by mighty frontwoman Cash Savage, whose potent lyrics and impassioned delivery articulate the personal-political issues of these times with all her heart, guts and grit. Having towered over festival audiences at Golden Plains, Boogie and Sydney Festival, selling out The Corner in her hometown of Melbourne, and earning rave reviews for her recent packed-out Sydney show: “You’d be hard-pressed to find a more exhilarating and heart-swelling live band in this country” (The Music), Cash Savage and the Last Drinks are on a mighty roll. The band has also made serious inroads in Europe, playing to huge crowds at festivals such as Binic Festival (France), Rock For People and Colours of Ostrava (both in Czech Republic).

Good Citizens begins and ends with a thought. “I’m thinking violence is the answer”, Cash Savage sings as the Last Drinks rally behind her.

Of course, it’s just a thought. And this is just a song. But the music Cash Savage is making is informed by real life — her own, and those of the people for whom violence, or the threat of violence, is inescapably real. The human beings who are called minorities and treated as though their lives matter less than others. The women and children on whom domestic violence is enacted, and those in the LGBTIQ+ community for whom violence is an implied or overt threat behind the rhetoric of “family values” and “good citizens”.

The album opens with “Human, I am”, ringing out with a phrase that resonates in the #NotAllMen era: “It’s okay, you’re not one of them”; a disclaimer that many minorities feel they need to use when articulating the oppression they experience. The lyrics that follow call “time’s up” on the need to apologise; “I know what I am, I’m not yours / Not a leader / Not a follower / Not brave / Not yours / I am human”. “We’re all humans,” Cash affirms, “which means we’re all part of the problem. And we’re all part of the solution.”

The first two singles released to date, “Better Than That” and “Pack Animals”, both bear witness to the damage that prejudice inflicts, in the form of hurtful scrutiny or mindless mansplaining. The title track was inspired by disbelief of the warped representations of “mainstream” Australia portrayed in the TV commercials screened during a sporting event. “You don’t need a job to be a good citizen,” Cash insists. “You don’t need to go to church to be a good citizen. You don’t need to be married to be a good citizen. But a little bit of empathy could go a long way.”

The album comes to a devastating conclusion with “Collapse”, a song Cash wrote for her daughter. “I hope she understands that the world is a violent place,” Cash explains. “She’s growing up in a world where there’s violence everywhere, but our privilege allows us to believe that violence is someone else’s problem. The wars that are fought are at a distance. A non-violent life is a privileged life, and fewer and fewer people are living that privilege.”

The politics of Good Citizens hit home all the harder for their juxtaposition amongst songs that are deeply, passionately, personal. The ache of missing a partner (‘February’), the heady highs of falling in love (‘Sunday’), and the triumph of knowing that love is indestructible (‘Found You’). Even as it peers into the abyss of the anger and brutality that rock our times, Good Citizens burns with a fierce flame of belief in the goodness that may yet prevail.

The band will be touring Europe between 4-21 October 2018.

Colour Meeting multi-genre festival will welcome musicians and theatre artists from 10 different countries.

The 15th edition of the multi-genre music and theatre festival, Colour Meeting, will take place on July 13-14th in Polička. Visitors can look forward to seeing musical and theatre projects from 10 different countries ranging from Australia and Guadeloupe to Czech Republic and Slovakia. They will have a chance to attend a range of workshops and taste local cuisine served on porcelain.

An eclectic and carefully-selected programme is typical for Colour Meeting. The Guadeloupean trio Delgres is a dream come true for a programme manager of any festival. They fuse the songs of Caribbean slaves from the delta of the Mississippi river with a proper rock’ n’ roll drive. Ross Ainslie & Ali Hutton are celebrities in Scotland and beyond. They are strongly influenced by traditional pipes as well as AC/DC, Béla Fleck and electronic music. In 2017, they were awarded the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award.

An unyielding feminist septet from Tarragona in Catalonia, Roba Estesa sings about equality, revolution and love. They staunchly defend their cultural legacy and freedom in the rhythms of cumbia and catalone rumba. Rhyece O’Neill & The Narodniks from Australia are a fusion about as safe as a cut-throat razor. They feel at home in rock’n’roll, blues, punk and country. O’Neill is also a writer, poet and producer. Electro-dub duo Darla Smoking from Slovenia will take you on a journey around the world.

Let’s not forget about songwriters. You can look forward to listening to the strong, emotive voice of Fabe Vega from Switzerland who has been heard on streets and stages all around Europe. Poland will also be represented by Daniel Spaleniak and his etheric blues-folk, the latest discovery of its vibrant songwriting scene. There will also be a place for bands straddling different continents. Metronome Blues from Brno, lead by charismatic New Zealander Rhys Braddock, are fundamental to the local club scene and are well-known for their thick guitar riffs. Czech – Italian duo Oswaldovi consisting of two voices, electric guitar and minimalistic percussive instruments play a mixture of psychedelic rock, blues, southern folk, all spiced up with the soundtrack of spaghetti westerns.

Colour Meeting will not forget about the domestic scene. Sto Zvířat will literally fill up the stage. These ska-matadores don’t rest on their laurels even after 30 years of playing together. Their energetic stage show and hilarious lyrics are a guarantee of an extraordinary performance. You can expect a similar drive from the Circus Brothers who will play their disco-balkan mix. A special set has also been prepared by Pio Squad, a top band of Czecho-slovak rappers who will make one of the four stops of their acoustic tour here in Polička. It has been a fruitful year for duo Kalle from Tábor. Their latest album, Saffron Hills, has received many awards including Anděl, Apollo and Best Czech Vinyl Desk 2017. Another artist who has a few Anděl awards in her collection is highly-regarded multi-genre pianist Beata Hlavenková, whose recent work includes the soundtrack to David Ondřiček’s movie Dukla 61.

Rock enthusiasts will be delighted to see Dirty Old Dogs, who get their inspiration from 70’s hard rock, grunge, blues and psychedelic music, as well as Neznámému bohu project who are deeply inspired by the forests and literature. Milli Janatková is a true renaissance woman: a distinctive singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, visual artist and lecturer who will not only perform, but also lead an artistic workshop. Visitors will also have a chance to try out their skills during a percussion workshop with Zeměznění project, as well as see theatre performances by Theatre 100 Opic and Theatre Toy Machine.
